Welcome to another publication of AlistairScribbles.
There’s something here for everyone: current affairs, history, random ideas and stray memories. What more could you want?
********
Fire, Fire
It’s a story we know all too well in Australia.

********
A Citadel
A fortress, typically one on high ground above a city. It is also a Salvation Army meeting place. In the mid 1960s my father was involved in the design and construction of the Salvation Army Citadel at Fisher Road, Dee Why (NSW, Australia), and it is still being used.

Mocking News January 2026:
The Sun has been captured and restrained by the Trump Administration for shedding light on the truth and melting ICE

********
Snakes, Wombat Holes & Fences
This is my most satisfying ‘combination’ work, created on both MacBook and iPhone. In simple terms, the free flowing aspects are from an iPhone, while the straight lines were created on my MacBook.

Portrait of a Great Horned Owl

********
Rowers on a Stream

********
The Bedsitter
I started this image attempting to produce an abstract version of our living room. However, everything I created looked too literal (and boring). I decided it might look more ‘abstract’ and interesting if I tried to position a house full of furniture in one small room, in a random, multi aspect, combined 2D and 3D layout.

********
In the Shadow of the Venetians
WhIle the Venetians were most famous for salt production and trade from 10th to 15th centuries, In Australia they are better known for Venetian Blinds, which are a very common form of window dressing here. However this form of blind didn’t originate in Venice. Apparently they came from Persia in the 1700s, where they were made from reeds. Subsequently they were popularised and refined by the Venetians.

********
A Colour Blender
I wanted to further explore the possibility of blending colours (or even better, creating smooth transition between colours and shapes) using the MacBook version of Freeform, knowing that there are tools for this in the iPad version. The MacBook result is as follows.

********
Perhaps a better approach to transitions and colour blending is to use the iPhone version of the Freeform App (since I don’t have an iPad).. However artistic control goes out the window to a large extent; my fat fingers on a small screen makes accuracy difficult.

Thank you for making it this far. I hope the viewing of these images and reading the supporting stories contributed something positive to your day.
Until the next edition, stay safe and well.

Posted at 16:07h, 03 FebruaryI really appreciate this comment Ruth. I see myself just trying to catch up to what has happened in art over the 20th & 21st centuries. And the question that comes to my mind is, “is my contribution relevant in 2026?”

Posted at 23:04h, 03 FebruaryI really love citadel for the story behind it and woven for the free flow. You should use your ‘fat fingers’ more as this was hugely successful
