09 Jan Camping with the Mob, Country NSW
October 2025
Our Camping mob drove out of Sydney a week before us, as we had a family function to attend. We caught up with them at Toongi Hall, just south of Dubbo NSW, Maggie driving our little blue car, me driving a large motorhome hired from Orange NSW.

In vicinity of the community hall (Toongi Hall) was our camping area, a playing area and a few hard surface tennis courts. The weather was warm and pleasant.

As is our custom we ventured to the closest town/city.
Dubbo City, NSW

It was a hot day, so Maggie and I found a nice place in the Castlereigh Pub, to sit and rest with a cool drink.

Ponto Falls NSW
After two nights at Toongi Hall, we moved to Ponto Falls (approximately 58kms east and 16km north of Wellington) and camped beside the Macquarie River in a paddock, with the cows and their flies rivalling the discomfort of the heat.

The river was flowing quickly and provided a welcome relief from the heat for some. The herd of cows crossed the river at will, eating their way along the river bank.

The Wellington Japanese Garden
To my surprise there is a thriving Japanese garden at Wellington.

I am big fan of Japanese gardens.

For many years I have wanted to see a Viburnum Japonicum ‘in the flesh’ and here was a beautiful example in full flower.

It was time to visit the town of Wellington..

More buildings of interest towards the centre of Wellington …

After 2 nights at Ponto falls we were happy to leave the heat and the flies and move to the city of Orange, 110 kilometres south.

Orange NSW
Overlooking the city is Mount Canobolas, an extinct volcano, which last erupted 11 million years ago and stands at 1,395 meters high.

Mullion Range State Conservation Area, 20 kilometres north of Orange.
