Since my last post I have spent a lot of time using the MacBook version of Apple Freeform. The biggest issue for me has been … there is no free-flowing painting brush tool (used extensively in my iPhone “scribbles”). There are straight lines that can be bent, curved lines that are resistant to too much change, geometric shapes that can be coloured, a large collection of common symbols and a spectrum of colours.
Yes, I previously wrote that the MacBook version of Freeform is ““watered down” and almost useless to me”. I can confirm it is “watered down”, compared to the iOS version. But, having worked with it more extensively, I’ve found I can do a lot more than expected and I feel like I’m learning a whole new visual language.
Some further context: I am a big fan of Wassily Kandinsky (Russian abstract artist), Joan Miró (Spanish abstract artist/sculptor) and Jeffery Smart (Australian Modernist/Precisionist). Examples of these artist’s works can be found easily by a Google search or Facebook search.

Following are a bunch of new AlistairScribbles. The first is a very simplistic, fun design using just a few of the available tools. Hopefully you see it as fun.

In this image the chicken, the egg and the fried egg are each created using the same basic elements. And even though it’s simplistic, it did take considerable time to create and to manage those skittish curved lines (they have a mind of their own).

Creating interesting backgound elements, that do not detract, is another important lesson I’m learning. It’s photography 101 and now I know it’s Freeform 101.

Jumping for joy I have been doing; firstly because I am now permitted to drive again; secondly I’ve been attending a PD Warriors program at a gym in Collaroy (PD meaning Parkinson’s Disease); thirdly I’m pleased by the progress I’ve been making with the new style “scribbles”. I must add that Maggie and I are very happy with our unit in Warriewood.

Here is an attempt to create an horizon and depth of field by perspective, in a sterile abstract environment.

The inspiration for the next one comes from Kandinsky.

An attempt to tame those skittish lines …

I hope I’m not overloading you, but here are two of the latest.

All 10 “scribbles” in this edition were created on my MacBook using the Apple App, Freeform. I’ve had a great deal of fun creating them. I hope you’ve gained as much viewing them.
All the best and see you next time.

Posted at 16:10h, 03 Octoberglad to see you’re happy with many elements of your life Al. More strength to you. You reference Kadinsky but the chicken and the egg had elements of Miro, methinks! Keep up the good work

Posted at 06:59h, 04 OctoberThanks Ron, I’m learning lot’s of things at the moment including how much gratitude contributes to one’s happiness. I appreciate the feedback about the influences. I wish my chicken was even close to Miro’s Chicken/Rooster. I appreciate the encouragement.
