28 May To Visit the Gallagher Patriarch
After leaving Gallagher Wines (near Canberra) we travelled to Mallacoota on the north eastern coast of Victoria.
While the population is just under 1000, the numbers increase to as much as 8000 during the main holiday periods.
We stayed at the Mallacoota Foreshore Caravan Park. I can recommend this park if you are travelling down this way.
Out of school holidays, Mallacoota is a very peaceful little town with plenty of water views, water sports and wonderful sunrises.
Everywhere we looked, no-one was in much of a hurry.
While happy to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the peace and quiet, our primary reason to visit was to catch up with the Patriarch of the Gallagher family, who is still going strong at 93.
The Pelicans and seagulls provided entertainment around the lake. And I never tired of watching them. I have always wanted to capture the “Boeing jumbo like” landing of a pelican on water and again I failed to do this to my satisfaction.
Maybe I’ll succeed at our next destination, Greenwell Point at the mouth of the Crookhaven (Shoalhaven) River near Nowra NSW?
