08 Sep June 2022 Trip to Caloundra QLD
Since retiring from work in 2016, Maggie and I have become serial travellers. This has not led to long periods away from home, as nearly all of our trips have been a months or less. But, having arrived back home we start to look for spaces in our calendar to suit the next destination or set of destinations. Covid lock downs, logistical difficulties and travel costs have prevented or discouraged us from attempting any long haul overseas travel since 2019, so our recent plans have been created around Australian destinations.
Queensland is an easy choice during our winter (June, July & August) and normally people from Victoria (VIC) and New South Wales (NSW) would be able avoid the cold winter temperatures and rain by travelling north into Queensland (QLD). Based on this premise we set out on a June trip to Caloundra, part of the Sunshine Coast of QLD. Unfortunately in 2022, large parts of Queensland were also cold and wet in June, due to a second consecutive La Niña weather system, plus a Negative Indian Ocean Dipole, bringing well above average rainfall and below average temperatures.

And this (or somewhere in southern QLD) is apparently where we caught Covid-19, as we both showed symptoms two days after arriving home and tested positive on the third day. Fortunately our experience of Covid was not serious.

I visited Caloundra in spirit 12 months ago, when I bought an Alfa Romeo Spider from a chappie there. He was selling it in order to finance the purchase of his third Harley-Davidson. I’m still in the Blue Mountains, so why not take a quick trip up here with your cameras? All the best, my friend
