Snapshots of 2021 Trips in NSW & QLD

In between lockdowns and border closures 2021, we’ve had opportunities to travel – from visiting relatives in Brisbane QLD to caravanning in NSW country areas.

Following are a series of snapshots that document parts of these adventures.

To Brisbane and Back

In the past we may have decided to fly to Brisbane. This trip we decided to drive because of concerns about contracting Covid during a flight. To make the drive more relaxing we stopped at the village of Sawtell NSW on our way up and Coffs Harbour on the return journey.

Hargraves

This small village is named after Edward Hargraves, who is credited with being the first to discover gold in Australia.

Hill End

A gold mining town from the 1850’s not far from Hargraves, Hill End is well preserved.

Sofala

Sofale was also a gold rush town of late 1900’s. However, it has developed into a working tourist village.

Kandos, The town that built Sydney

Kandos is famous for cement making. The area was unique in that it had the right resources for making cement (e.g. coal and lime). So in 1916 it became the first place to manufacture Portland Cement in Australia.

Among many other items, the museum displays the large cylindrical cement making machinery

More lovely photos, Al. They never disappoint. And it’s great that you have been out and about, helping the local economies while seeing the sights and enjoying the freedom. Let’s hope there’s more of that ahead! Cheers, Marg M

Alistair, even if I had the exact same camera I could not present such great pics. Thank you for reviving so many of our own great memories without buying the petrol. Fond regards to you and Maggie.
